How to make a backup passcode for my Phone As A Key?

You can create a backup passcode using your SYNC®* or Lincoln Digital Experience screen after you set up your Phone As A Key** device. Use the steps below for more information. 

Create Backup Passcode for Phone As A Key 

Instructions to create your backup passcode will differ if you choose to set it up immediately after setting up Phone As A Key or at a later time. Select one of the dropdown options below for the steps to create your backup passcode for Phone As A Key. 

Create Backup Passcode Immediately After Setting Up Phone As A Key

Important: 

  • The key fob presence is required when setting up your backup passcode. It serves as an additional layer of control and authentication to ensure the person setting up the passcode has the authority to do so.
  • Ensure that your vehicle is on, running, parked, and in a well-ventilated safe area.

To immediately create a backup passcode after setting up your Phone As A Key, follow the prompts appearing on your vehicle's SYNC touchscreen.  

  1. Tap Yes to continue. An instructional screen with setup requirements will appear.
  2. Select Continue.

    Note: If more than one Phone As A Key device is detected, you must select the one you want to be backed up.
     
  3. Enter your desired passcode. 

    Note: Your passcode must meet the system requirements which are at least 6 characters of letters, numbers, and special characters or 10 characters if all numbers (e.g., #Ford1 or 2569013473).
     
  4. Re-enter your passcode. 

    Note: A pop-up displays the completed and remaining steps. You may also create a new door keypad code at this time. If you choose to create a new door keypad code, you will be prompted to enter the code on the screen twice.
     
  5. Tap Finish.

Create Backup Passcode at a Later Time

Important:

  • Ensure that your vehicle is on, running, parked, and in a well-ventilated safe area.

If you chose to create a backup passcode after setting up your Phone As A Key at a later time, follow the prompts appearing on your vehicle's SYNC touchscreen.  

  1. Select the Vehicle button on your SYNC touchscreen.
  2. Tap Settings.
  3. Choose Backup Start Passcode.
  4. Select Create Backup Start Passcode.
  5. Select Continue.

    Note: If more than one Phone As A Key device is detected, you must select which one you want to be backed up.
     
  6. Enter your desired passcode. 

    Note: Your passcode must meet the system requirements which are at least 6 characters of letters, numbers, and special characters or 10 characters if all numbers (e.g., #Ford1 or 2569013473).
     
  7. Re-enter your passcode. 

    Note: A pop-up displays the completed and remaining steps. You may also create a new door keypad code at this time. If you choose to create a new door keypad code, you will be prompted to enter the code on the screen twice.
     
  8. Tap Finish.
